FROM THE PASTOR'S PEN |
The 2005 film, Cinderella Man, starring Russell Crowe, is a story about James J. Braddock, a hard-nose boxer from New Jersey. Known as the Bulldog of Bergen, Braddock was a fighter who met with a great amount of success in the late 1920s, but soon ran into hard times.
Boxing is a sport of hard knocks, and Braddock began taking a few, inside the ring and out. Inside the ring he broke his hand and was getting tired with age. Outside the ring he and others were facing the Great Depression. For Braddock, it truly was a Hard Knock Life.
Life can knock us around pretty hard, too, with auto accidents, unexpected illness, relational difficulties, financial hardship, job applications that lead to denial, and houses that are built and dont sell.
In the next few weeks were going to be going through a series of messages entitled, The Hard Knock Life, based on Romans 5:3-5, which says, More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because Gods love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
We hope you can join us as we learn how God uses Hard Knocks to transform our hearts and lives.
